ALAO is a multi-award-winning architecture and interior design practice based in New York. Working at the intersection of design and social advocacy, their projects pursue social and environmental impact alongside aesthetic intent.
While the initial goal was simply to move their website off a clunky, hard-to-maintain platform, it quickly became clear that a full revamp would serve them better. If we were rebuilding, their new site needed to express who they are clearly and precisely, not just function more smoothly.
Our goal became twofold: communicate ALAO’s identity clearly, and shape an experience that reflects the depth of their practice. Our challenge was while social advocacy is core to their identity, residential work sustains the business. The website needed to attract more residential clients without misrepresenting their values. Thoughtful curation became essential. We focused on selecting key projects and carefully framing their narrative.
The result is a clean, understated site that invites exploration. At first glance, it’s simple and unobtrusive; as visitors look closer, the layers of ALAO’s design practice are revealed. It communicates their values with clarity, highlights the quality of their work, and positions the studio with the confidence and purpose they bring to every project.
